Basketball with Sinaloa flavor | Long live basketball

Only a few kilometers separate El Rosario, head of the Sinaloan municipality of the same name, with the town of Chametla, if we go on time by road, they are not more than 20 minutes away and curiously it is the birthplace of two figures of the Mexican basketball who have written their name in the history of this sport, Horacio Llamas and Brisa Silva, two players who have left their name engraved in the history of Mexican basketball.

Sinaloa is a state that in recent years has grown in its sporting level in terms of basketball, largely driven by development and work focused on new talents, taking as reference the two great athletes that we mentioned a few lines ago, which is a sign that goals are achieved with a lot of effort and dedication.

Horacio Llamas Gray, “El Becerro” for his friends, was an outstanding basketball player in our country and was the first Mexican to reach a place in the best league in the world in terms of basketball, it was on March 2, 1997 when The NBA debut came when the Phoenix Suns faced the Dallas Mavericks, he played four minutes and scored the only field goal he made, writing an important chapter for the sport of baskets in Mexico, followed by Eduardo Nájera, Gustavo Ayón , Jorge Gutiérrez and Juan Toscano, to complete the group of five Mexican players who have seen action in the NBA.

During his time as a professional he participated in the main leagues in Mexico and is considered one of the best pivots that our country has given, playing in his student years in the United States with Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona, reaching the NCAA II with Grand Canyon University before making the leap to the NBA, in addition to having been selected national and multi-champion in Mexican basketball, both in CIBACOPA and in LNBP.

The popular “China” Silva began her career at age 16 in Los Angeles, California with Garfield High School where she was Player of the Year in the 2002-03 season and was a member of the California First Team, won a scholarship at Central Arizona College and achieved the title of the NJCAA in 2005 with the distinction of MVP for the Sinaloan, culminating his student stage at Oklahoma State University and graduating with a degree in Physical Education.

In 2008, Brisa came close to fulfilling the dream of debuting in the WNBA, due to fate, she could not stay with the LA Sparks but that did not prevent her from continuing to triumph in basketball, becoming an adventurer as she toured the court in Several countries accumulating endless experiences, he became a benchmark with the Mexican National Team with which he played in different stages. Her multiple championships and individual distinctions make her one of those historic players for basketball in our country.

Llamas and Silva are great friends, proud of their roots and great exponents of this discipline in different latitudes of the world, which shows that the determination to do things well is the basis of success, taking advantage of every opportunity and working every day to achieve each of the goals set.
