ATP Finals: Tennis double Krawietz / Mies failed at the beginning

London (AP) – The German tennis double Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies started the ATP Finals with a narrow defeat.

At the start of the season’s finale, the two-time French Open winners in London lost to Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands and Nikola Mektic from Croatia 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 7 (4: 7), 7:10. The third set was played as a match tiebreak, in which the two Germans lost five points in a row at the end.

For the second time in a row, the 30-year-old Cologne-born Mies and the two-year-old Coburg Krawietz are taking part in the doubles competition of the ATP Finals, for which the best eight pairings of the year qualify. In two groups of four, two semi-finalists are first determined. Last year the German Davis Cup doubles were eliminated in the group stage.

The best German tennis player Alexander Zverev competes in singles. The world number seventh from Hamburg will serve for the first time on Monday and will initially face the Russian Daniil Medvedev. The tournament is endowed with a total of 5.7 million US dollars.
