Liberbank Oviedo Baloncesto learned yesterday the positive for coronavirus of someone who, although he is not any of the players with a card in the first team, he has been present during the training sessions directed by Natxo Lezkano. The consequence is that the match that was to play on Saturday against Palencia – a team trained by Miere’s Arturo Álvarez – in Pumarín has been postponed and the players will have to spend ten days confined and without training. The other members of the staff underwent a PCR test yesterday and today it will be known if any other member has tested positive.

The OCB had played three games so far this season in the LEB Oro, the three that corresponded to it, since it already had a rest day (the Oviedo Baloncesto group is odd and each day a rest team stays). A start that, in addition, was being very promising both for the results and for the game that it had been displaying: it lost on the first day against one of the great favorites for promotion, Breogán de Lugo, and won the next two against Melilla and Ourense. A good start that had placed him in third position, in the leading squad of what a priori is the most complicated group of the two that this year make up the category.

The postponed game on Saturday was also a classic of the competition. Palencia and Oviedo have been facing eight seasons, in which on three occasions they have also seen each other in the play-offs for promotion to the ACB. In total, there are 26 games they have played, with 10 victories for the OCB and 16 for Palencia.

As if the ingredients were few, the coach of Palencia is Miere’s Arturo Álvarez, another classic in the category who has been in command of one of the teams that aspires to be in the top positions of the classification. At the moment they are second with two wins and two losses in the even group A of the LEB Oro.
