What is the project of the Cordoba coaches to change the competitive ages of local basketball

Since last April, with all activities halted by the coronavirus, a group of Cordoba basketball coaches works on an ambitious project to change competitive ages of the tournament Cordovan Association (ACBB).

By regulation, the ACBB can receive the projects to modify their competitions until October 15 to be treated in the final months. The objective: that in December, the clubs know how they will play the following year.

Before presenting it to the ACBB, the technicians of the Córdoba teams sent it to the Cordovan Association of Basketball Technicians (Acoteba), who requested that the bibliography used and the authors cited be added to the project “to make it more complete.”

From Acoteba they informed World D that the ACBB authorities were asked to postpone the delivery date. At the same time, the group of Cordovan trainer that drives the project, confirmed that it was presented in a timely manner, on the night of October 15.

The president of the ACBB, Rubén Whelan told this newspaper that he is aware of the project but that “it was not presented.”

The idea is to play in U14, U16 and U18, and return to the U21 category as a previous step to the First.

Boys aged 13 and 14 will play in the U14 category; in U16, 15 and 16 years old; in U18, with 17 and 18 years old, and in U21 those of 19, 20 and 21 will do it. In this way, the Seniors will go from 21 years onwards.

It aims especially at the U13 and U19 categories, those with the highest dropouts, in the hands of Silvio Santander, coach of San Lorenzo in the National League, member of the technical staff of the national team commanded by Sergio Hernández and also promoter of the CABB method.

“We carried out a study that showed us a very high dropout rate in two critical ages. One is in U19, because young people stop playing or go to large cities, while the other is U13, in which they also face that step from elementary school to high school, and also everything that the change of rules from minibasquet to Sub 13 means, ”Santander highlighted.

The Argentine Confederation (CABB), the highest national basketball entity, maintains the categories in U13, U15, U17 and U19 as a prelude to the Major. The Santafesina Association approved the change of the ages for its tournaments to be played since 2021. It is the only one in the whole country.

For many, the CABB should change competitive ages across the country.

The parts

“On the night of October 15, between 11:40 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., the project was sent by email,” they told World D from the group of coaches that slows down the change in competitive ages.

“If we play with the even categories and in the rest of the country, it would bring us complications,” says Whelan.

“It is good to debate,” adds the head of the ACBB, although he maintains that “no project was presented” to change the mode of competition in the field of local basketball.

As a personal opinion, Whelan does not see the changes wrong. “It would be good to try and see how it works,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Rossotto, a member of the Acoteba “small table” said: “We sent the ACBB the request for postponement of the due date to present projects and the Association did not reply.”

“Everything was handled institutionally, the request for the postponement was sent by email,” Rossotto added.

Given the “lost year” by the coronavirus, many in the environment argue that playing 2021 with the change of ages would be “a good measure for the boys.” There is time to analyze and debate to make the best decision for the activity.
