Werder Bremen beats Arminia Bielefeld 1-0

IIn the 27th minute, Leonardo Bittencourt scored the goal of the day and let the Hanseatic League cheer after the difficult 1-0 (1-0) against the promoted team. After the second win in a row, Werder overtook Bielefeld with six points and is now on a European Cup place.

The team of coach Florian Kohfeldt showed an appealing performance in the first half even without the actually planned support of their own fans and confirmed the upward trend after the 3-1 last at Schalke 04. The Arminia of coach Uwe Neuhaus, however, had to win the first league Accept bankruptcy in 2020 (first and second division).

“It will be a tough nut to crack, we mustn’t lose a touch of attention,” Kohfeldt had said before the game and his team started wide awake and committed in front of a ghostly crowd as required.

Because the corona cases in Bremen have increased significantly in the past few days, the 8,500 spectators actually planned could not see the good start of Werder on site. The city authorities ordered a ghost game on Thursday.

Bremen’s superiority

Bremen initially made a little too little of their superiority so that Bielefeld could dig their way into the game better – and through Fabian Klos (20th) and Sergio Cordova (26th) there were opportunities. Shortly afterwards, the home side suddenly cheered after Bittencourt refined a cross from Jean-Manuel Mbom worth seeing. An alleged hit by the 26-year-old six minutes earlier was not recognized due to video evidence due to a wafer-thin offside position.

With increasing playing time, the game babbled a little. Werder surprisingly gave Bielefeld more space, did not push forward as consistently and, much to the displeasure of Kohfeldt, who often had to be very loud on the sidelines, afforded a few lack of concentration.

Almost consequently, Bielefeld had a very good opportunity to equalize through Klos (61.), but Jiri Pavlenka in the Werder goal was able to parry the attacker’s header. DSC defender Mike van der Hoorn hit the end of stoppage time with a head, but missed (76th). The home side could hardly provide relief and defended the lead with man and mouse.
