In addition to being a platform for the sale and purchase of boats, motors, accessories and nautical services, Virtual Valencia Boat Show has become the digital meeting point for lovers of the sea and nautical. The contest directed by Nacho Gómez-Zarzuela has managed to bring together virtually the most prominent of high-competition sailing worldwide, from regatta organizers, to elite athletes, through nautical clubs and benchmark marinas where major events are held.

This Friday, the afternoon had two exceptional guests: the duo formed by Argentines Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza, gold medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, who commented on their work routines, their feelings after the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, and his preparation to sail in the new Nacra17 modality with foils.

“I think it is brave to do a virtual boat show. It is very good to try to get out of what we have had to live in some way. Santi Lange reflected as soon as he started his presentation.

“For me what we do is a choice, and what I like the most is thinking about how to go faster”, says Lange, who at 54 years old and after overcoming cancer, managed to win Olympic gold with Cecilia Carranza at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“The Nacra is the most demanding boat I have sailed in my sporting career, especially at this stage with foils”, The Olympian has assured, who has indicated that, although he considers that his team is not the best in the fleet, it is possible to be champion “Navigating smartly.”

The challenge of flying

Argentine couple work hard to dominate a boat “Much more challenging than the previous one” Since in this new modality, the Nacra17 Olympic boat has a different centerboard and foils that allow it to rise above the water and navigate at high speeds.

“We are not particularly good with certain conditions, but we are relatively competitive in all conditions”, has pointed out the employer, who has ensured that “We are better in working capacity.”

The candle must seek volume

The Argentine sailor has also analyzed the different Olympic classes and has not hesitated to point out that sailing must seek categories with many participants. “I think that the Olympic world has to have something accessible and cheap for any country and any sailor. We need a voluminous category such as Laser, Windsurf or Kite ”, Lange has assured.

Senior Sunday

On Sunday the Valencian room dedicates its events to competitive sailing. At 11:00 SailGP will offer a meeting with the Olympians Jordi Xammar and Florian Trittel, who are also sailors of the Spanish team in this flying catamaran regatta, which is one of the most spectacular events in the world.

At 12:00 noon, it is the turn of the ocean sailor Dídac Costa, who is a week away from setting sail for the second time in the Vendée Globe, sailing around the world alone, without assistance and without stopovers

The morning will conclude with a conference, which will be in English, by Samuel Piñeiro, CTO of The Ocean Race, who will talk about the impact of technology and analytics on The Ocean Race regatta.

This will close a cycle of highly competitive sailing conferences that started on Thursday afternoon with a talk by Agustín Zulueta, CEO of the 52 SuperSeries, Manu Fraga, RCN Palma sports director, and Álvaro Irala, manager of Puerto Portals, who offered an analysis of the situation of international regattas after the outbreak of the health crisis. Puerto Portals also has a stand at the event, as do other large marinas and clubs that host international competitions such as La Marina de València, co-organizer of the Virtual Valencia Boat Show, Marina de Cascais, Real Club Náutico de València or Valencia Mar.
