VfB / SC want to annoy the league leaders

Four games, three wins: After being immediately promoted to the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga, VfB / SC Peine has so far been convincing – third place is the reward for their good performances. On Saturday, VfB / SC is now calling for table leader TSV Trittau II, and the next day he has to compete at Hamburg Horner TV. “If we get two points in total, we would all be happy,” says Peine’s coach Heiner Brandes.

TSV Trittau II – VfB / SC Peine (Saturday, 3 p.m.). First against third: “Sure, that’s a top game,” explains the VfB / SC trainer. “However,” he adds, “we are just blatant outsiders”. Because, on the one hand, TSV is the money team in this league, “on the other hand, it is well occupied, especially in the positions where we mostly score,” explains Brandes. Above all, the Dane Martin Bundgaard is one of the points guaranteed by the front runner. “He’s a real hit.” But the Indonesian Indah Sari also plays extremely well, he praises. How good she is, a look at her record shows: She has played seven times this season in doubles and singles – and in all seven games she clearly prevailed without losing a set.

Due to the strength of the opponent, Brandes is also cautious. “The aim is to annoy the championship leader – and if we then come home with a point, that would be absolutely great.”

In order for that to work, “we have to win the back games”. That means: the second men’s singles, the ladies doubles and the mixed are the pairings “in which something is possible. But to do this, we have to grow beyond ourselves, ”says Brandes. However, should it not be enough for a counter, “that wouldn’t be so bad. Our focus this weekend is on the second game anyway. “

Hamburg Horner TV – VfB / SC Peine (Sunday, 12 noon). The fact that Hamburg only has four points on their account after four games “is also due to the Corona crisis”, explains VfB / SC coach Heiner Brandes, pointing out that there are many strong Scots in the host’s squad, but they do cannot be flown in because of the pandemic. “That’s why the people of Hamburg have to fall back on their old line-up.”

This is exactly what makes Brandes confident, “that there is definitely something in it for us – we are aiming for two points,” emphasized the coach. At the same time, however, he warns against measuring the Hamburgers on their previous results. “Because they are uncomfortable to play and have strong people, especially Mats Hukriede,” says Brandes.

However, because his team is in good shape, the Peiner coach confidently enters the game. “If we manage to bring our potential to the field, we win.”
