“Valmiera” football club observes quarantine, Sunday game postponed

“Optibet” Premier League championship team “Valmiera” according to the instructions of the Center for Disease and Prevention (SPKC) observes quarantine, as a result of which the game scheduled for Sunday against “Liepaja” has been postponed indefinitely, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) reports on Saturday.

LFF reports that one case of Covid-19 has been diagnosed in the Valmiera club. The person in question has subsequently been in contact with other members of the club, so the SPKC has asked the team to comply with quarantine. Covid-19 tests at the club were conducted on Friday.

The LFF also reports that further decisions regarding the championship play will follow based on the future epidemiological situation and the possibilities of the calendar.

On Sunday, the people of Valmiera would have played an away game against “Liepāja”. Due to the cancellation of the match between the two teams, four matches will take place in the Optibet Super League on Sunday.

The first place in the tournament table with 63 points in 23 matches is taken by “Riga”, which is nine points ahead of RFS, which has played 22 games. 39 points are for “Valmiera”, 34 points – for “Ventspils”, 32 points for 21 games – “Liepāja”, but 31 points – for “Spartak”. “Jelgava” is further with 21 points, “Daugavpils” has accumulated 19 points, “Metta” has gained three less, while Tukums 2000 ″ / TSS has reached eight points.

This season, ten teams will start in the Super League, which is one more than last year and two more than yesterday. Also, this season in the Super League, the legionnaire limit has been raised to eight players. This means that there must be at least three players prepared for the association on the court at the same time. Last year, the limit was five foreign players.

As in many other countries, after the coronavirus break in the regulations of the Premier League championship in the 2020 season, the number of permitted player substitutions has been increased from three to five.

Due to the three-month forced break, three will be played instead of the four planned laps this season.

Last year, “Riga” was crowned Latvian champion, but RFS won its first trophy in the history of the club, which won the national cup.
