Marc-André ter Stegen has refused to sign a protest fax from his teammates at FC Barcelona. As reported by the Spanish radio “Catalunya Radio”, the Dutchman Frenkie de Jong and the Frenchman Clement Lenglet also abstained. The Barça stars faxed a protest against pay cuts this week.
Due to the corona pandemic, FC Barcelona got into financial difficulties. The club’s income has fallen by 30 percent. Therefore, the board decided to adjust the players’ salaries. These make up 70 percent of the total budget.
According to “Catalunya Radio”, wages should not be cut, but rather divided and distributed over a longer period of time. Marc-André ter Stegen probably showed understanding for the financial situation of the club and therefore refused to sign.
The German international is facing a contract extension with the Catalan top club until 2025. Barcelona has now forwarded the fax to its lawyers.
