The stadium behind Lužánky is an iconic place of Brno football. In October 1996, the spectator record of the Czech league fell there, when 44,120 fans came to the match with Slavia. The last time the first league was played was in 2001.

Since then, the stadium has fallen into disrepair, and its reconstruction and possible construction of a new one has been the subject of many disputes. Nevertheless, in 2015, Petr Švancara held his farewell to his career, which was attended by 35,000 spectators. Since then, “Švanci” has been trying to further restore and use the sports ground in this locality.

The aim of the new project is to build four playgrounds with facilities in the area of the former stadium, which could be used for training by young footballers from all over the region. Players of floorball, American football, lacrosse, frisbee and other sports would also find training asylum there.

Švancara is excited about how Lužánky is filling up. Will Zbrojovka reach the second million?

“Lužánky is something absolutely special for the people of Brno. For the boys who went to support Zbrojovka with their dads and grandfathers, it is literally a tabernacle. This place simply has to serve sports as well as cultural purposes. boys and girls learned to play sports here, “said Brno patriot Švancara in a press release.

Thanks to the Dame to You project, Brno became the first statutory city in the Czech Republic to introduce a participatory budget at the city-wide level. The city has set aside 33 million crowns for its fourth year, and since one project can cost a maximum of three million, this means that at least 11 projects will be implemented. All these proposals can be viewed on Náměstí Svobody these days.
