Pittsburgh Steelers OL Jarron Jones was arrested for grievous bodily harm

PITTSBURGH – Jarron Jones, an offensive lineman on the Pittsburgh Steelers training team, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and simple assault following a complaint from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The arrest is due to an alleged confrontation between 26-year-old Jones and his girlfriend in a Pittsburgh residence in the early hours of October 3rd, according to the criminal complaint.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Jarron Jones,” said Kevin Colbert, general manager of Steelers, in a statement. “We are collecting all the details of these disturbing allegations, but will not make any further comments at this time.”

When the police arrived at the residence, they found a woman crying and breathing heavily as she walked down the stairs from a second-floor apartment. This was the result of the criminal complaint by the Post-Gazette.

The woman told police that an argument had broken out between her and a man upstairs who was identified as Jones according to the criminal complaint. As soon as Jones went downstairs, he was immediately arrested and told police that he was renting the apartment and that he was going out with the woman, according to the complaint.

Jones told police that after returning from one night separately, the woman complained “broken objects in the apartment and yelled at Jones”. Then he picked up the woman by “grabbing her back and legs and putting her outside,” the complaint said.

However, the woman said police Jones strangled her, slapped her in the face, slapped his Xbox console across her face, picked her up and, according to the complaint, threw her outside. She also told police that according to the complaint, she lost consciousness during the altercation.

Police also wrote in the complaint that the woman had abrasions on the right side of her face near her temple, bruises with a swelling on her right forearm, and a small abrasion on the upper left chest. According to the complaint, she was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Jones was taken to Allegheny County Jail.

The Steelers first signed Jones, a Notre Dame product, in April after spending a shortened XFL season with the New York Guardians. Despite failing to make the 53-man roster, he earned a spot on the team’s training team.

The arrest comes because the Steelers are in an unplanned goodbye week after the week four game against the Tennessee Titans was postponed to a later time in the season due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Titans organization.
