Mignolet lashes out at Club Brugge: “I don’t understand this” | Football24

Simon Mignolet is not satisfied with the competition management after Standard-Club Brugge. Blauw-Zwart conceded two penalties. Mignolet could take one, but in the deep final phase Gavory could still equate from the spot.

“I don’t really understand why they make it so difficult. There are assistants and a VAR to check whether or not it was a penalty. I’m not going to elaborate on it because I haven’t seen the images yet. I dare not say it, I was in target and did not have a good view of it. What I especially do not understand is that the decision is taken so early. Then just let yourself be assisted as a referee “, says Mignolet on the Club Brugge website.

“I don’t want to point a finger, but there are plenty of tools to make a better decision than facing a fait accompli right now. Just the same thing they do with the offside rule: just let the phase continue. Just like with the rejected goal. I am not a bad loser, because maybe Standard earned more than one point today. They played well, I dare say that. But for us we lose two points and a clean sheet that we didn’t need to lose.”

“Ik wil geen vinger wijzen, maar er zijn hulpmiddelen genoeg om een betere beslissing te nemen dan nu voor een voldongen feit te staan. Net hetzelfde dat men doet met de offside-regel: laat de fase gewoon doorlopen. Net als bij het afgekeurde doelpunt, dat is dan wel een goede beslissing. Ik ben geen slechte verliezer, want misschien verdiende Standard meer dan één punt vandaag. Ze speelden goed, dat durf ik gerust zeggen. Maar voor ons verliezen we twee punten en een clean sheet die we niet hoefden te verliezen.“
