VAR David Coote has been scrutinized by a lot of people after deciding at Goodison Park yesterday not to check Jordan Pickford’s tackle.

And ECHO columnist John Aldridge is no happier with him than any other Reds fan.

He wrote for the Irish Independent: “A wonderful Merseyside derby was ruined by some insane VAR decisions at Goodison Park, with my accusing finger not pointing at referee Michael Oliver after yesterday’s 2-2 draw.

“If anyone can come up with a credible reason why VAR official David Coote didn’t let the referee know that he had to watch Jordan Pickford’s challenge against Virgil van Dijk in the first half, then I’ll be all ears.

“The crazy VAR lines that nobody can train told us that Van Dijk was offside by half a millimeter under construction, but that doesn’t mean Pickford can rattle into the Liverpool center-back and take him out around his knee.”

He says the device ‘could put Liverpool’s entire title defense in the Premier League at risk.

The full extent of Van Dijk’s injury will be announced shortly. Liverpool believe Thiago’s knock – when Richarlison was sent off – isn’t as serious.
