Liverpool injury update as Virgil van Dijk leaves the hospital on crutches

Virgil van Dijk walked out of hospital on crutches and Liverpool feared the sideline defender could take a longer period of time.

Van Dijk has been investigated on a suspected knee injury sustained in a 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby in Goodison on Saturday as a victim of a horror challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Dutchman had long treatment on the field before limping off after just 11 minutes. VAR decided not to punish Pickford for the X-rated tackle as Van Dijk had been classified as offside during construction.

While there have been rumors of the severity of the damage to the player’s right knee, Liverpool are still waiting for the results of the scans.

But the Reds fear that Van Dijk, who has not missed a Premier League game since January 2018, could be out for a long time.

The Reds are also waiting for news of scans on Thiago Alcantara after the midfielder was late fouled by Everton’s striker Richarlison, who was subsequently given a red card.

Thiago played the remaining minutes but complained of discomfort after the final whistle and is said to be swollen on his right knee.

Everton v Liverpool – Reds reaction

Both players have great doubts about the Champions League kick-off in Liverpool against Ajax in Holland on Wednesday.
