Ligue 1: Rennes loses for the first time this season against Angers

The match: 1-2

Rennes missed an opportunity to take the lead in Ligue 1. The Bretons lost (1-2) at home on Friday at the start of the 8th day of the Championship, their first defeat of the season. Julien Stéphan’s men nevertheless opened the scoring on their first opportunity thanks to Adrien Hunou, on the lookout for a shot from Flavien Tait badly repulsed by Paul Bernardoni (18th). But despite good control of the ball, the Rennais no longer managed to create a new opportunity until the last ten minutes, when they finally increased the pressure on the Angevin goal, without result (84th, 88th). Symbol of Rennes’ harmlessness, the talented Eduardo Camavinga (17) was diligent but unable to find decisive shifts before being replaced at the hour mark by Martin Terrier.

The Angevins, on the contrary, gave off a much sharper impression. If they were happy with the equalizer, a strike countered by Sofiane Boufal (27th), the SCO players cracked the Rennes defense on several occasions with vertical play. Angelo Fulgini thus launched Stéphane Bahoken perfectly, who lost his face-to-face with Alfred Gomis (43rd). Upon returning from the locker room, Fulgini was this time receiving a long ball from Ismaël Traoré then took advantage of a disagreement between Damien Da Silva and Gomis to score (57th). Subsequently, Boufal found himself alone against Gomis after a fine block, but he placed his head right on the Senegalese goalkeeper.

The player: Doku, a contrasted first

For his first tenure in Ligue 1, Jérémy Doku, the most expensive recruit in the Rennes transfer window (€ 26 million), left a mixed impression. Keen on his ball catch, the young Belgian international (18 years old, 5 selections) has multiplied the percussions. It was on one of them, coming inside from the right wing and then seeking a one-two with Adrien Hunou, that he created the gap before the latter’s goal. But apart from this action, he failed to unbalance the Angevin block and often made poor choices, losing 24 balls, by far the greatest total of the match.
