In October, Daum published his biography “Always at the Limit”, in which he describes numerous anecdotes from his eventful coaching career.
But the coach also sees the need for these changes over time: “We didn’t have this economic importance before. Today you have to please the sponsor with every statement, not just the fans. We didn’t even think about that before. “
Daum’s last engagement so far ended in September 2017 with the Romanian national team.
“Dad made a mistake”
For Daum, his cocaine affair 20 years ago also had a huge impact on his children. When asked how he explained the positive hair test and the subsequent media hype to his son and daughter at the time, Daum said: “Actually, in such a way that mistakes are part of people. Making mistakes is human. Dad made a mistake, he learned from it, he won’t make it again. So no matter what happens, talk to the parents, there is always a solution. “
The positive hair test not only took Daum away from his coaching position at Bayer Leverkusen, but also from the national coaching job that he should have started in the summer of 2001.
