The course of the match
Atletico Madrid get their first chance in this match. In the third minute, Yannick Carrasco’s collaboration with Renan Lodi produced a horizontal pass towards Luis Suarez. However, Suarez failed to reach the ball, resulting in only a goal kick.
Bayern’s counterattack four minutes later. Kingsley Coman’s stab on the left flank ended with a cross received by Robert Lewandowski. However, Lewandowski’s cheating was still off the mark.
Bayern almost scored. In the 15th minute, Joshua Kimmich’s corner is met by Thomas Mueller with a pass for Niklas Suele whose shot hits the Atletico goal post.
Three minutes later, Jan Oblak made a resounding save to keep out Corentin Tolisso. Coman’s penetration ended with a shove on Tolisso before firing a shot from a tight angle.
Bayern Munich opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Kimmich sent a long ball from midfield which reached Coman on the left side of the penalty box. The French winger took the ball with his left foot, then finished with a right-footed strike to beat Oblak. Bayern lead 1-0 from Atletico.
Carrasco returned to lead the Atletico attack. However, Atletico’s finishing was still not on target.
Entering the last five minutes of normal time, Bayern succeeded in increasing their lead to 2-0. Robert Lewandowski grabs the ball from midfield to pass on to Coman. He then sent the ball diagonally to Leon Goretzka to finish with a hard kick.
Bayern came close to scoring their third goal just before halftime. However, Lewandowski’s header to welcome Benjamin Pavard’s cross was off the mark.
