Bayer Leverkusen suffered an annoying defeat on the second matchday in the Europa League. At Slavia Prague, coach Peter Bosz’s team lost 1-0. Peter Olayinka scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute. Because Nice lost to Be’er Sheva in the parallel game, all four teams in Group C now have three points in their books.

Discussions about the expulsion

At the beginning, Leverkusen controlled the game and after ten minutes already had 75 percent possession. However, the Werkself were unable to create many chances. The low-lying Czechs from Slavia Prague defended compactly and fended off everything.

The game took a turn in the 22nd minute. Karim Bellarabi grabbed his opponent Provod after losing the ball, but didn’t really hit the Czech. In addition, it had slipped a little. The ex-national player could not actually be assumed to have an intention. Nevertheless, referee William Collum drew the red card. A decision that Leverkusen did not agree with.

Hradecky saves a penalty

As a result, Prague had more offensive urge and suddenly sought the attack itself. However, there was no goal in the first 45 minutes. Even after the break, the Czechs remained offensive, pushing Bayer into their own half. The Leverkusen counterattacks had no effect.

In the 64th minute, referee Collum pointed to the penalty spot. Bayer goalkeeper Hradecky had fouled striker Olayinka in the penalty area. But the Finn ironed out his own mistake and saved the penalty (65th).

Against Be’er Sheva next week

In the final phase, however, the ball wriggled in the net. In the 80th minute it was again Olayinka who came to the fore. After a corner he heaved the ball into the box from seven meters.

As a result, Leverkusen ran up, got a big chance through Amiri (89th), but remained unused. Next week the Bosz-Elf will meet Hapoel Be’er Sheva. Before that, the Bundesliga is against Freiburg.
