Badminton: Regional league games canceled out of caution

The badminton players in the regional league have drawn up a catalog of premises, according to which individual games can be suspended. And this will be used this weekend. “Everyone now always wants to see until the Monday before the match day how useful it is to play the following games,” explains Henning Zanssen, captain of SG Vechelde / Lengede, whose team is now free.

In Hamburg, the Südkreis-SG would have wanted to build on the successes of the first match day at SSW and Horner TV II. But from Thursday to Friday the incidence value of the city of Hamburg rose above the critical value. With 52.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, the Hanseatic city is now a risk area.

Eight of the team captains of all clubs involved met in a video chat and discussed ways of running the season properly. In areas with a value of over 50, “a team can cancel with justification,” explains Zanssen.

Should the clubs agree to play after all, then that’s okay too. For the weekend, the SG Vechelde / Lengede agreed on a transfer with the two Hamburg teams and BV Gifhorn, who had also traveled north. The games will now take place on December 18th and 19th.

According to the schedule, the Vechelder would receive SV Harkenbleck on November 7th and the SV Bremen police in Woltwiesche the next day. “But who knows what’s in two weeks,” says Zanssen. “We will see.”
