The competition to find Couture’s successor who resigned after 15 years as head coach is over. With a long experience as a player and coach, where she led Douglas College in British Columbia for nine years, Jobin says she is ready to take on greater roles within the Rouge et Or.

“I love to give to young people, and my mission is to share my 20-year experience,” she said. When I returned to Quebec City last year, I didn’t think I would lead the Rouge et Or in the short term because I wanted to work with the younger ones. Étienne is very human, very competent and I did not think he was going to leave. By talking to Mathieu Morneau (a former star player of the Rouge et Or and sports studies), my vision changed. Mathieu told me that Etienne had a big impact on him when he was in sports studies. I realize that it is possible to work with the most advanced even if you run the Rouge et Or. ”

After her playing career that took her to the national center in Calgary after her victory at the 1983 Canada Games, presented in Saguenay, Jobin moved to British Columbia where she joined her brother. She found a job as a coach.

“I had the chance to travel a lot as a player and to meet great athletes,” she said. I saw what it takes to reach the top level. I want to give young people a chance to reach the top level if that is their desire. “

Injuries

Annoyed by various injuries that forced her to retire, Jobin also tore her anterior cruciate ligament during her coaching career, an injury that kept her away from badminton for a few years. “It took me four years to learn how to walk again and I stopped coaching,” she said. When I returned two years ago, I realized I still had the bite. “

Had it not been for the pandemic, Jobin would have experienced her international baptism as a trainer in early June. Couture had given him the mandate to lead the Rouge et Or at the University Pan American Games to be held in Mexico. “I was in a state of shock when Étienne asked me to go to Mexico with the team,” she said. He trusted me very much. It really hurt the whole team that the tournament was canceled. “

The contest ended on May 24. The selection committee went through the applications this week to determine which candidates will be selected for interview. Le Rouge et Or wants the interviews to take place in person rather than through the Zoom platform. The new head coach should be known by the end of June.
