The next presidential election in FC Barcelona, by the end of January, will it be so hotly contested? While it is the businessman Jordi Farré who tabled the motion of censure against the management of the Blaugranas, triggering the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu and his colleagues, the favorite is called Victor Font. This 48-year-old Catalan has been promising, for a few months now, the return of great club legends like Xavi Hernandez.
“We inherited Cruyff’s style of play”
Victor Font spoke to Sky Sports, Thursday, and he said in particular: “it is our intention to build a strong and competitive project. We are very lucky, we inherited the style of play instilled by Johan Cruyff. The best professionals who know this style are in love with the club, like Pep Guardiola, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol. These are legends who love Barca but don’t work for Barca today. We need to bring them back to make sure we have a competitive project».
In short, Victor Font does not say much, in what moreover looks like an interview resulting from a simple exchange of emails (since the Catalan’s answers would have a perfect place in a press release). But Sky Sports, which is nevertheless one of the only serious sports media in Great Britain, ended up capturing: «The reunion between Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola desired in Barcelona by the favorite in the presidency».
Messi and Guardiola, who will extend?
An extension of Lionel Messi accompanied by a fanfare return of Pep Guardiola, the FCB members obviously dream of it. With Victor Font at the head of the club, the six-fold Ballon d’Or could certainly decide to extend the adventure, but probably with Xavi on the bench in place of Ronald Koeman. As for Guardiola, if he is out of contract with Manchester City next year, discussions for an extension are underway. The Catalan strategist seems well attached to the Mancunian project.
