Through an open letter, Van der Sar entrusts Van de Beek’s future to Man United

KOMPAS.com – The former Dutch goalkeeper who is now CEO of Ajax Amsterdam, Edwin van der Sar, has released an open letter to release the departure of one of his players, Donny van de Beek, to Manchester United.

Donny van de Beek officially anchored at Man United after the club announced the player’s arrival on Wednesday (2/9/2020) evening WIB.

The 23-year-old midfielder became Man United’s first recruit in the transfer market this summer.

He was brought in by Man United for a dowry of £ 40 million or the equivalent of Rp. 787 billion.

Launching from the club’s official website, Donny van de Beek signed a five-year contract with an option to extend for one year.

Donny van de Beek is not the first Dutch player ever to be recruited by the Man United camp.

Before Donny, there were 12 other footballers from the Windmill Country who had grazed with the club nicknamed The Red Devils, one of which was Edwin van der Sar.

The former goalkeeper who is now 49 years old made 266 appearances during his career at Man United.

He decided to retire in July 2011 after six years guarding the Red Devils’ goal.

Currently, he holds an important position at Ajax Amsterdam, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

As a CEO, Van der Sar also released Donny’s departure to his former club, Man United, by releasing an open letter uploaded to his personal Twtter account, Thursday (3/9/2020) afternoon WIB.

In the letter he addressed to Man United fans, Van der Sar said that Donny was one of the best players Ajax Amsterdam had ever had.

He feels lost, but believes Man United is the right club for Donny’s career.

Therefore, Van der Sar is willing to leave Donny’s dreams and future at Manchester United.

“Dear Manchester United fans, I hope you are well. It looks like our paths have met again,” wrote Van der Sar.

“One of us joined you this season, and like many players before him, he’s been with us since he was a kid.”

“Shortly after his debut, he was one of the best, especially in the last few years, from the Europa League final (no offense) to the Champions League games, and winning the Dutch League.”

“Like you, we are proud to be one of the best in developing talent and providing opportunities for young players at the highest level. You could say your new star (Donny) is a manifestation of that pride,” continued Van der Sar.

“That’s one of the many reasons we don’t like seeing him leave, but we understand it’s time for him to move, to dream.”

“There’s no place better than your ‘Theater’ to do that. Trust me, I know.”

“Please take good care of our Donny, and help him dream,” said an open letter from Edwin van der Sar.
