Soccer Bundesliga: FC Schalke 04 sign Vedad Ibisevic

Ibisevic changes to FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have found a new striker and, as expected, have signed Vedad Ibisevic. The 36-year-old attacker, who last had no new contract with Bundesliga rivals Hertha BSC, signed a one-year contract until June 30, 2021 after completing a medical check at Schalke. The Bundesliga team announced.

“Vedad is a real asset to our squad. An experienced, goal-threatening offensive player who is still burning for every single Bundesliga appearance,” said Schalke’s sports director Jochen Schneider. In the talks he convinced with his attitude: “He just wants to keep playing football at the highest level, and his qualities are undisputed.”

The fact that Ibisevic was able to be signed for a free transfer helps the financially troubled Revierclub. However, the former Bosnian international must accept compromises compared to his previous salary in Berlin. The “kicker” had reported that he should only collect a basic salary of 100,000 euros for the one-year contract. There will probably be higher bonuses and performance bonuses for the experienced striker.

Club Brugge interested in Eintracht striker Bas Dost

The Belgian champions FC Bruges are interested in signing striker Bas Dost from Eintracht Frankfurt. This was reported by “kicker” and the Dutch newspaper “Algemeen Dagblad”. It remains to be seen whether the 31-year-old attacker will actually be sold. According to a club spokesman, the player does not want to comment publicly on the issue.

It was only at the end of August 2019 that Dost switched from Sporting from Lisbon to Main for seven million euros. However, the Dutch veteran’s lack of speed turned out to be a problem in the past season. In order to have money available for a faster, higher-class striker, Eintracht would first have to sell one of the attackers under contract.

What speaks for Bruges is that Dost should play in the Champions League there and have the chance of national titles. The club had been named champion in the Belgian championship, which was prematurely canceled due to the corona pandemic, it was the 16th championship title in the club’s history.

Gareth Bale is thinking of returning to England

Welsh international Gareth Bale can envision a return to the Premier League if his current employer Real Madrid lets him go. The 31-year-old professional told the British broadcaster Sky Sport News. “If there is an opportunity like that, I’ll definitely see it,” said Bale, who was under contract with Tottenham Hotspur in England until 2013 and no longer plays a role in the Spanish champions. “Time will tell what happens, but I think the decision is mostly in the hands of Real Madrid.”

Bale had wanted to leave the club for China a year ago. Real didn’t let him go, said the Welshman. “They blocked everything at the last second. It was a project I was looking forward to, but it never got through.” Real also rejected other requests to move, said Bale. “There have been a lot of times I’ve tried to leave but the club won’t allow it or they’ve done something.”
