Sevastov in the second round of the US Open Championship loses Kostjukai – Sports

Latvian women’s tennis racket Anastasia Sevastova lost to Ukraine Marta Kostjuka in the second round of the US Open Championship on Wednesday with the result 3-6, 6-7 (5: 7).

Sevastov ranks 45th in the WTA rank and was numbered 31st in this tournament, but Kostjuk ranks 137th.

Sevastova has earned 70 WTA points for reaching the second round.

Both tennis players start the game with a convincing service, and the Ukrainian had several “aisles”. In the fifth game at the result 40:15 Sevastova did not use two breakballs, but in the next she lost her own serve, which allowed Kostjuka to take the lead with 4-2. The waiters then won, with the Ukrainian tennis player succeeding in the set with 6-3.

The first game of the second set turned out to be intense, in which Kostjuka did not use seven breakballs and the result was “equal” nine times, but Sevastova reached 1-0 only with the third approach. He then went without breaks and won the waiters, so the result was 6-6. The winner of the set was determined in Taiwan, where the 18-year-old Ukrainian came in 2: 5, but scored four points in a row and came to the match ball, which was used – 7: 5 and won the whole game.

Sevastova had one “aisle” in this fight, and the opponent – even seven elusive services. There were two and three double errors, respectively. Kostjuka scored 30 points with an attacking blow, but Sevastova only five. Slightly worse result for a Ukrainian in unforced errors – 29/22.

In the first round, Sevastova defeated 16-year-old American Coco Gofu (WTA 51) with 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, while Kostjuka defeated Darya Kasatkin (WTA 70) with 6-1, 6-2. Sevastova’s victory allowed the WTA tour to end a series of eight losses that began last October.

The two tennis players had not played against each other before in their careers.

Sevastova’s “US Open” is the most successful Grand Slam tournament of her career – she played in the semi-finals in New York last year, but previously played for the quarterfinals for two years in a row. Last step back, because last year the superiority of the Croatian Petras Martiča had to be acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Kostyuk’s Grand Slam has never gone beyond the third round, but this season she has only been able to reach the main events in the Prague and Lyon International, but the athlete has previously competed in the International Tennis Federation (ITF). She won the W60 competition in Cairo this year, but in total this season the Ukrainians have 20 matches, in which 14 successes have been celebrated.

Sevastova has won only two of 11 games this season, having previously won the Federation Cup when they beat Serena Williams. On the WTA tour, Liepaja has a balance of 1-8 this season, but, including last year, she had a series of eight losses.

This summer, Sevastova took part in two demonstration tournaments in Germany, one of which won. She was also part of the Latvian national team at the Estonian-Latvian match in Tallinn, giving way to the leading tennis players of the northern neighbors in both singles. Rank points were not shared in these tournaments.

It has already been reported that several tennis stars, including Latvia’s first racket Alona Ostapenko, will not be able to be seen at the US Open Championship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

New York was one of the worst-hit U.S. cities in March and April, when the Covid-19 epidemic took over the United States. The temporary hospital was even set up on the indoor courts of the US Tennis Center.

Following the cancellation of the Wimbledon Championship, the US Open became the second Grand Slam tournament of the season after the Australian Championship. The French Open is also scheduled for this year.
