French rider Julian Alaphilippe loses his yellow jersey because of a penalty at the end of the fifth stage of the Tour de France 2020.

Turnaround on the Tour de France: Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck) was sanctioned by the jury of commissioners on Wednesday September 2 after the fifth stage of the Great Loop. Yet arrived well on time, he received a 20-second penalty. He thus lost the yellow jersey to the benefit of Briton Adam Yates (Mitchelton) who was until then second in the general classification four seconds behind Alaphilippe. This penalty is due to unauthorized refueling at the end of the stage leading to Privas.

Alaphilippe however wore the yellow jersey since the second stage, Sunday, August 30. He dedicated the victory to his father who died last year.Last year, the Frenchman spent fourteen days in yellow.
