Ostapenko: If I regain stability, I will return to the top ten – Sports

If Alona Ostapenko regains stability, she will be able to return to the top ten of the WTA rank, emphasizes the first racket of Latvian women’s tennis.

It has already been reported that Ostapenko convincingly overcame the first round of the French Open in Tuesday. Ostapenko, who is 43rd in the WTA rank, defeated American Madison Brengl (WTA 77) in the first round with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Ostapenko this is the fifth French Open championship in her career, and she overcame the first round only this year and in 2017, when she sensationally triumphed in the tournament and achieved one of the greatest successes in the history of Latvian sports. Since then, she has won only two International tournaments and had dropped from fifth to nineteen at one time.

“After winning the 2017 French Open, there were hard times. I had to get used to the pressure, but now it’s all over, and after two unsuccessful tournaments, I’ve won one game again. I feel better than in previous years,” Ostapenko told a news conference.

She did not participate in tournaments in the USA, instead training on clay. “I have been waiting for the clay season all the time, and it is finally here. Yes, there is only one victory so far, but I am satisfied with my performance today,” said Ostapenko.

The place in the rank of Ostapenko currently prohibits being among the sown tennis players. “I have to be more confident about my game and be more stable. If I am stable, I will also be a dangerous opponent who is hard to beat. Sometimes I seem to play well, sometimes I don’t. At the beginning of 2018, then I think I will be in the top ten again, “concluded Ostapenko.

Overcoming the first round, 2017 “French Open” champion Ostapenko earned 70 WTA ranking points.

In the second round, Ostapenko will meet the second number of the tournament and fourth-place owner Karolina Pliskov from the Czech Republic or Egyptian Maya Sheriff (WTA 172). Ostapenko has met Pliskov five times in his career, winning two victories, including in the last mutual match in the first round of last year’s Beijing WTA “Premier” tournament.

Pliskov achieved his best result in the “French Open” three years ago, when he reached the semifinals.

The Roland Garros tournament was due to take place this year from May 25 to June 7, but in mid-March it was postponed to the fall and is the last Grand Slam of the season.

The tournament takes place on clay.
