The coach, Marco, and the sporting director of Bàsquet Girona, Plà, had explained this summer how he wanted his team to play and, although it is always difficult to draw conclusions from the first pre-season matches, yesterday’s victory in Platja d’Aro against Barça B (75-60) served, at least, to check that Carles Marco is determined to move from words to deeds. There are mistakes, of course a lot of things to improve, details to adjust in defense, but really Bàsquet Girona wants to pass the ball and play basketball well. Against a Barça B as talented as inexperienced, the Girona players played their best basketball when they most brazenly sought to make that extra pass with a Ryan Logan who is surely one of the four least selfish Americans when it comes to numbers that will be in the LEB Gold.
Rozitis’ points near the basket, the highest scorer of the match with 16 points, the forcefulness when looking for the opposite basket of Pep Busquets or the evidence that Dani Garcia is talented enough that Albert Sàbat does not have to play 30 minutes per match on the court were some of the first touches of the new version of the project chaired by Marc Gasol. And, no less important, the depth of the staff of Bàsquet Girona.
