Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is helped by the return of Mateo Kovacic for today’s big game against Liverpool .
The midfielder missed the opening game of the season in Brighton due to a suspension after being sent off in the FA Cup final against Arsenal last month.
The Croatian is likely to move into midfield to start alongside N’Golo Kante, with Jorginho possibly being the man out.
In defense, Lampard could try to get Antonio Rüdiger for Andreas Christensen, as the German’s pace could be useful against Liverpool’s fast forward line.
In the attack, Lampard has to decide who will lead the line.
Werner has done well against Brighton but Olivier Giroud is pushing for the start and could be an option as his physicality rivals Virgil van Dijk’s.
The Frenchman’s start would likely mean Timo Werner will be deployed on the left and Kai Havertz will be given the chance to play in his favorite No. 10 role.
Mason Mount could then end the attack by playing right as Christian Pulisic is injured.
Chelsea predicted XI will face Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Kepa; James, Rüdiger, Zouma, Alonso; Edge, Kovacic; Mount, Havertz, Werner; Giroud
