Beach volleyball – Ludwig defeats Walkenhorst – Sport

Laura Ludwig emerged from the duel of the beach volleyball Olympic champions as the winner. In the quarter-finals of the German championships in Timmendorfer Strand, the 34-year-old and partner Margareta Kozuch narrowly beat Kira Walkenhorst and Anna-Lena Grüne with 2-1 sets (13:21, 23:21, 15:11). Ludwig suffered a 2-1 defeat at their first encounter in August against their gold partner from Rio. Walkenhorst had only recently made her comeback after a nearly two-year injury break. In the semi-finals on Saturday it will be against Kim Behrens / Cinja Tillmann. The duo beat the defending champions Karla Borger and Julia Sude in the quarterfinals 2-0 (21:18, 21:11). Meanwhile, the vice world champions Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler qualified as group winners directly for the men’s quarter-finals on Saturday. Defending champion Bennet Poniewaz / David Poniewaz have to go through the round of 16 as third in Group B and meet Georg Wolf / Peter Wolf from Frankfurt on Saturday.
