Two PSG players suspected of having Covid-19

The French giants have not played since the Champions League final defeat and will start their Ligue 1 season on 10 September

Two Paris Saint-Germain players are suspected of contracting Covid-19, the club said.

The unnamed players remain healthy and are following protocol to minimize the risk of spreading the disease, PSG says, though it has yet to be confirmed if they have it.

There have been several cases of players testing positive for Covid-19 in France in recent weeks, with Lyon star Houssem Aouar missing his team’s first game of the season after being diagnosed, while Rennes have announced three cases. confirmed last week.

The French international was also impressed by news that Manchester United star Paul Pogba had tested positive, forcing the midfielder to retire from the squad ahead of the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Sweden and Croatia.

PSG have not yet kicked off the 2020-21 season due to their involvement in the Champions League final, which lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich on 23 August.

The Ligue 1 champions will return to action on 10 September when they go to face Lens, who have yet to collect a point after the first two rounds of the new campaign.

Nice took the lead at the top of the table with six points after beating Lens and Strasbourg, while Bordeaux, Rennes, Monaco, Nantes and Lille are two points behind.

Having won the domestic hat-trick last season, PSG have been quiet in the transfer market, with Mauro Icardi the only confirmed signing after his loan from Inter was signed outright.

However, they saw several players leave over the summer when Belgian full-back Thomas Meunier left to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer and Thiago Silva joined Chelsea after his contract expired.

Meanwhile, forwards Edinson Cavani and Eric Choupo-Moting have been released and have yet to sign for the new clubs.

Thomas Tuchel’s side also saw potential 18-year-olds Tanguy Nianzou and Adil Aouchiche leave for Bayern Munich and Saint-Etienne respectively.
