Patriots quarterback Cam Newton impressed Bill Belichick with his work ethic during his first training camp together.
Belichick said on SiriusXM NFL radio that Newton works as hard as he did when he coached the Patriots.
“I can see why it was as successful as it was at Auburn and Carolina,” Belichick said. “Talking to people who were there with him, the things they said about him a decade ago, or two or three years ago, or even last year in Auburn and Carolina, are all the same, and it changed here shown: He is an extreme person hardworking worker. Nobody works harder than Cam. He’s here early, he stays late, and he works very hard. Some players like to work on things they are good at. If you are strong at the bench press, just put more weight on the bench. But Cam works on things that he’s not good at and tries to improve every day and I really respect that about him. It’s not easy for players or any of us. We’re going to get something that we’re not really good at or that isn’t our forte, and you will spend extra time doing it if our natural tendency is to do things that we’re good at. That’s why he works extremely hard in all areas. “
That’s an enthusiastic review from Belichick, who sounds optimistic that Newton can make a career again in New England.
