Trent Barrett, Canterbury Bulldogs coaching staff, is removed

The Canterbury Bulldogs will reportedly sack a large part of their coaching staff in a mammoth cull led by upcoming head coach Trent Barrett.

Weeks after signing a deal with the struggling club, Barrett is reportedly planning to introduce a new coaching team for the 2021 season.

The bomb news was first revealed by Channel 9’s Danny Weidler, who tweeted Wednesday night: “Clean up the coaching team at Bulldogs. Expect to be shown the door to all senior coaches. Current interim Steve Georgallis included. “

According to Dean Ritchie of The Daily Telegraph, Georgallis, head of high-performance Tony Ayoub, and strength and conditioning coaches Harry Harris and Tony Grimaldi are among the staff at the ax.

Keep talking NRL 360Fox Sports reporter James Hooper confirmed the reports.

“The Bulldogs will make a major announcement for their football team for the next year,” said Hooper.

“I don’t think Steve Georgallis, Tony Grimaldi, Tony Ayoub and Harry Harris – all of these footballers are being told that they will finish at the end of the season.”

However, the Daily Telegraph journalist Paul Kent was not impressed with the reveal.

“I think this is a problem for Canterbury,” Kent said on Wednesday.

“Canterbury is trying to grow from what they have been doing for the past few days and these guys have been the mainstays of the club.

“They are quality operators … these guys, they are great clubmen.”

Barrett signed a three-year deal with the Bulldogs last month after Dean Pay stepped down as head coach. Canterbury assistant coach Steve Antonelli had resigned a month earlier.

Barrett coached the Manly Sea Eagles for three seasons before serving as assistant coach to the Penrith Panthers.

The Bulldogs are currently at the bottom of the NRL ladder and will take on the Wests Tigers on Sunday afternoon for their next game.
