Vertonghen leaves Spurs
Central defender Jan Vertonghen has left Tottenham after eight years.
His contract expired last month, with Jose Mourinho surprising some fans with his decision not to extend the veteran’s contract after 315 games.
The 33-year-old Belgian has signed for Portuguese giant Benfica on a three-year contract.
Benfica finished second in the league last season, having won five of six Primeira Liga titles previously.
Inter are aiming for the Chelsea star
According to Gazzetta Italia, Chelsea and France superstar N’Golo Kante would be lined up for a big move by Inter.
That would see Kante reunite with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who has taken the defensive midfielder to new heights en route to Premier League and FA Cup glory.
The Italian heavyweights have a lot of money to spend – having also been linked to a shock move for Lionel Messi – but Kante has three seasons remaining on his lucrative Chelsea contract, so he would likely have a huge price tag attached to his name.
The 29-year-old is one of Chelsea’s biggest earners, so Frank Lampard could cash in on his sale as he continues to shape the Blues team in the future.
New deal for Newcastle’s gun?
Newcastle continue to hope 20-year-old midfielder Matty Longstaff chooses to extend his tenure at the club.
Longstaff’s contract has expired – meaning he’s available to sign for other teams on a free transfer – but the rising star apparently hasn’t decided whether to return to the Magpies or try his hand elsewhere.
The youngster was reportedly earning just £ 850 a week, but a vastly improved offer remains on the table and manager Steve Bruce has repeatedly spoken of his desire to keep the talented midfielder.
Premier League newcomers Leeds and Serie A Udinese have both been strongly linked to Longstaff.
