Tour de France 2020 | The second stage was won by the home team Julian Alaphilippe

France cheers! The hilly second, 186 kilometers long, stage of the 107th year of the Tour de France cycling tour with the start and finish in Nice was won by the home racer Julian Alaphilippe after the final spurt. He stripped the winner of the opening stage of Nora Alexander Kristoff from the yellow jersey, in which he rode for 14 days last year’s “Old Ladies”.

Alaphilippe dedicated his fifth Tour Tour victory to the memory of his father, who died at the end of July.

The 28-year-old Frenchman won a spurt of a three-member group of refugees in the finish line. He separated from the main group 13 km before the finish, then he was overtaken by the Swiss Marc Hirschi and the British Adam Yates.

Alaphilippe boarded about 200 meters in front of the tape, when a peloton was approaching the refugees. The only favorite member of the Deceuninck-QuickStep team was Hirschi, but he was no longer ahead of the French. Yates finished third just before the peloton. In the standings, the order is reversed, Alaphilippe leads Yates by four seconds, Hirschi is third.

After Sunday’s triumph, Julian Alaphilippe changed into a yellow jersey for the currently leading Tour de France.

Teammate Zdeněk Štybar, who lost his participation in the Tour at the last minute due to injury, stripped the winner of Saturday’s opening stage, Alexander Kristoff from Norway, from the yellow jersey. The second stage already offered atypical hills, cyclists completed two climbs of the first category and one category of the second.

Monday’s third stage from Nice to Sisteron has a rather flat profile, after 198 km a mass spurt should decide.
