Spar Girona begins group training in Fontajau

Spar Girona lives today in Fontajau the second day of the preseason workouts. Yesterday was a day of medical examinations and protocol tests for the prevention of Covid-19. Today, with all negative results, the team has already been able to perform the first group session under the orders of coach Eric Suris.

Still with several players to arrive due to the complexity of traveling from their respective countries, the coach has been able to count on Júlia Soler, Laia Palau, Adaora Elonu, María Araújo, Julia Reisingerova and Helena Oma from the first team. Núria Bagaria, Mireia Daura, Laia Moya, Iho López and Vane González have joined as links.

After the morning session, Surís and Laia Palau assessed the start of training. Both have agreed to point out that it is ahead a different season which may be marked by how the coronavirus pandemic evolves. Palau has assured that his “commitment” is with Uni and that then, if the health situation allows it and he is in good condition, he will already think about challenges with the Spanish team such as the Tokyo Games.

Surís, meanwhile, stressed that they will start working “very slowly” for avoid risks after a five-month hiatus and a confinement in the middle. That is why at the moment the coach rules out playing friendlies at least in the next fortnight. Uni will make their debut in an official match on September 6 in the final of the Catalan League against Cadí at the Palau Blaugrana.

Frida Eldebrink and Giedre Labuckiene will arrive tomorrow, Paola Ferrari on Sunday the 16th, Sonja Vasic on the 24th of August and Chelsea Gray will join once the WNBA is over, a competition she is playing with LA Sparks.
