Shin Tae-yong is still looking for descendants for the U-19 national team

Indonesia U-19 national team coach Shin Tae-yong is still looking for players of foreign descent. Who followed Jack Brown and Elkan Baggott?

The South Korean coach has emphasized that the players you are looking for must have Indonesian blood. He had no plans to summon foreign players and naturalize them.

“Indeed we are currently in search of (Indonesian descent), but I cannot reveal his name. If the time is right, it will definitely be announced,” Shin Tae-yong told reporters on Friday (28/8/2020).

Previously, the issue of PSSI plans to naturalize five young players from Brazil was intense. The issue originated from the appearance of five players under the age of 20 who joined and spread across Persija Jakarta, Arema FC and Madura United.

Two names of the five players were accidentally raised by PSSI in a webinar with IDN Times last July. But Shin emphasized that he was not interested in using naturalized players.

“We are looking for naturalized players who have Indonesian blood (descent) for the development of Indonesian football, these players are needed and needed,” said Shin.

“There is no such thing for (naturalization of Brazilian players). We want to look for Indonesian-blooded players abroad, so that Indonesian football can develop one level.”

Only Jack Brown and Elkan Baggott are descendants and are included in the U-19 national team training camp. The two English-Indonesian players are also included in the list of 30 players who will undergo training in Croatia.

Even so, Elkant will not necessarily join Croatia due to constraints on permission from his club, Ipswich Town U-18. PSSI Acting Officer (Plt) Secretary General of PSSI Yunus Nusi has also indicated that Elkan cannot participate in U-19 national team training abroad.

“Regarding Elkan Baggott, there has been no reply from their club (Ipswich Town U-18),” said Shin.
