The Seahawks added defensive end Pita Taumoepenu on Sunday, a move that adds depth to the defensive line with Branden Jackson on the injured reserve.
Taumoepenu, who was Utah’s sixth-round pick by the 49ers in 2017, has played six games in two seasons with San Francisco, recording three tackles. He spent part of last season on the Seattle practice team.
In Utah, Taumoepenu recorded 21 sacks, 25.5 tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles and 73 total tackles in four seasons, including nine sacks and 12 tackles for a loss as a senior.
Jackson has played 36 games for Seattle over the past three seasons, including 15 games last year where he had two career best sacks. Jackson was knocked out in a scrum earlier this month at CenturyLink Field and had to leave the field in an ambulance.
Jackson was back with the team a few days later and was able to attend meetings, but he did not resume training.
