Russia sacks boss of anti-doping agency

Russia sacked Friday, August 28 the boss of its anti-doping agency (Rusada) Yuri Ganous, a rare credible Russian voice in the field, a decision that risks further slowing the country’s reintegration efforts into world sport. Questioned in early August by Rusada’s supervisory board after an audit revealing breaches in internal management, Yuri Ganous was dismissed after a general meeting of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Committees, which oversee the agency. When he arrived in Rusada in 2017, Yuri Ganous had laid off 90% of the staff and started to fundamentally disrupt the work of the agency, in particular the organization of doping controls.
