Patrick Mahomes can’t keep up with his girlfriend’s workouts at home

It’s hard to think of an athlete who has a better time in the spotlight than Patrick Mahomes. After becoming the Golden Child of the NFL overnight in 2018, he briefly took the backseat of Lamar Jackson before laughing for the last time and hoisting the Super Bowl trophy in February. At home, however, Mahomes is like us. He recently took to YouTube to talk about it for GQ Sports.

It’s time for Patrick Mahomes to shine

It’s hard to believe that although he has become a household name and entered the sport’s lexicon like shortly before him, Mahomes only played for two seasons as a full-time starter.

After finishing 10th in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes spent most of his rookie season behind Alex Smith as he watched the Pro Bowl quarterback lead the team to a 9-6 record before winning his only game as a starter.

The following year, however, everything changed for the better. Mahomes was given the keys to the franchise after Smith left for Washington. Although Mahomes was the tenth overall pick in the draft, no one expected him to be a superstar. However, Mahomes wasted no time showing why he was one of the best quarterbacks in the 2017 Draft.

The Chiefs had a tear and Mahomes’s arm, combined with the speed and skill of teammates like Tyreek Hill, made them an overnight success. Mahomes didn’t just show he was talented; he has already explained that he is practically a superstar.

He threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions, leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record. After falling to Tom Brady and the Patriots, the team had to wait for Super Bowl glory.

Fortunately, this wait was not too long. Although Mahomes and his company used a more conservative offensive plan, the Chiefs were still among the best teams in the NFL. While Lamar Jackson had the kind of press Mahomes had the year before, Mahomes was standing at the Super Bowl, and after showing unprecedented ability in the clutch, he was a champion and an MVP.

For the GQ Sports Undercover series, Mahomes answered questions posed to him both directly and indirectly. Mahomes answered tons of questions on everything from who would be his dream target as a quarterback (Randy Moss) to who he most admired as a quarterback (Aaron Rodgers). However, not all questions were about football.

Mahomes answered questions about his favorite video games, which he said were Call of Duty. He spoke about his picks for pre-game music, food, comparisons to LeBron James and more. However, perhaps the most interesting part of the video relates to his workouts.

Many of the questions for Mahomes were about his training schedule. As he spoke about his shoes of choice and his ultimate goals, he spoke particularly candidly about his trainer’s resistance at home.

No, this coach is not someone hired by him or the Chiefs, but by his girlfriend, personal trainer Brittany Matthews. Mahomes said Matthews had exhausted him with workouts and continued to show the video to the public of what he was doing at home.

Mahomes said Matthews gave him workouts that even a world-class Super Bowl winner struggled to keep up with. In a world where many athletes are unable to get to their typical reps, Mahomes has the luxury of a built-in personal trainer who won’t let him take a day off.

Barely 24 years old, this commitment to fitness could be what sets him to dominate for years to come.
