Andrew Johns has criticized the idea that post-game interviews take place the day after a game and called the call for such a move “ridiculous”.
The suggestion was made by Penrith chairman Dave O’Neill, who said post-game press conferences leave coaches prone to emotional outbursts.
The comments came after Penrith manager Ivan Cleary was fined $ 20,000 for questioning the referee’s integrity in his team’s win over Canberra.

“I love to see coaches and the occasional player who are emotional and raw. I think 24 hours later would be ridiculous.
“The fans deserve an answer.”
The great Brad Fittler agreed.
“The coach is the spokesman for the team and the club after the game. It’s just him trying to cover Ivan and give him room to wobble.”
The Panthers want to return to the top of the NRL ladder when they battle the Warriors on the Central Coast tonight.
Cleary’s men can return to the top of the rankings after Melbourne’s victory over the Roosters on Thursday.
The Panthers have won eight times in a row.
