NSW government support for the NRL boutique stadium strategy could lead to the development of up to five new stadiums with a capacity of 20,000 in Sydney over the next decade.
NSW Deputy Prime Minister John Barilaro confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald Tuesday that the government is interested in “getting back to basics” and plans to develop “three, four or five” specialized suburban areas like Bankwest -Stages of Parramatta.
According to the report, Brookvale Oval, Penrith and Kogarah are being considered for remodeling, and a new venue in Liverpool that could accommodate multiple teams is also being considered.

The NRL is keen to focus its long-term strategy on smaller stadiums after the Berejiklian scrapped the controversial $ 800 million redevelopment of the ANZ stadium.
“The government has an appetite for the soil renewal program proposed by the NRL,” said Barilaro The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I think we’re going back to basics, back to the past, where this tribalism is, in a way, what the competition needs. We’re seeing upgrades in Brookvale, you have (the new) Parramatta Stadium. If we have the opportunity to do three, four, or five more Bankwests, it has to be great for the game in the long run, great for the community, and great for this competition. “
Meanwhile, Barilaro said he was “very confident” that this year’s grand final will take place at the ANZ Stadium.
