On his future: “I know what my first idea is, I have been clever in the past”

The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Ducati) assured that he lacks “regularity” to be able to always fight for podiums and victories and get even closer to the now leader Jorge Martín and the current champion Pecco Bagnaia, both also on Ducati, while Regarding his future and the fight to accompany the Italian in the official team in 2024, he assured that he already knows what his “first idea” is and that he will play his cards.
“I lack the consistency of Martín and Bagnaia, they are always fast and are in the ‘Top 3’ or ‘Top 5’. I am fast, I feel competitive, in Jerez and Le Mans I was super close to them but I must find that consistency. It will be a very important challenge in Montmeló, one of the most complicated circuits for me. I will try to find a way to be fast and be in the lead,” he said at a press conference prior to the Catalunya Grand Prix.
Marc Márquez believes that he can also fight for the title this year, although he sees himself somewhat below Martín and Bagnaia, whom he has 40 and 2 points respectively. “I can fight for the championship, this year too, but if it makes your life easier on the track, it will help,” he said. “Martín and Bagnaia fought for the World Cup last year, they are the strongest this year, and I am going to work to fight with them,” he added.
As for that possible future in the official Ducati team, or departure to another factory, he has not yet gotten wet. “I know what my first idea is, I have been smart in the past and smart last year too. I have clarity and I know what I need to be fast next year. If I am able to show good feelings on the track, it will be better for me future,” he said.
“Without a doubt, my situation has changed a little compared to last year. This year I was looking to enjoy the bike, recover sensations and step by step I am regaining a good level of competitiveness. It is very important. I am happy to fight against these pilots,” he added, in this sense.
“For me, the Ducati is the best right now and the one with the most potential on all the circuits. That’s why last year I opted for Gresini. It’s still the best bike on the grid. Aprilia and KTM are getting closer, and Since you ask about Aprilia, Maverick (Viñales) has shown that they can win races and Aleix won here last year,” he noted.
Regarding the Catalunya Grand Prix, he acknowledged that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has not been “very good.” “But I have been the fastest Honda, almost always. I want to understand how we can go here with the Ducati. Here there are fluid corners and not ‘stop and go’, which is one of my strong points,” he argued.
