NFL great Joe Theismann backs BLM but says he will wear for the national anthem: ‘I still believe he honors the military’

Super Bowl XVII champion quarterback Joe Theismann said more action and less activism is needed when it comes to the Black Lives Matter movement, telling FOX Business on Tuesday that while he supports the movement, it will still represent the national anthem this season.

Theismann spoke to FOX Business’s Neil Cavuto about the upcoming season and his take on the NFL’s handling of renewed calls for social justice changes in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

“We all want social justice,” he said. “One of the things that bothered me a bit was that I haven’t heard of any changes that have taken place. I think we really need to enlighten people more and say OK, we’re talking about social justice, but we don’t just need activism, we need action. We have to see something happening so that people can feel good about what is happening.

Theismann has said he intends to defend the national anthem because of what it means to him, but hopes everyone will understand the different points of view.

He continued, “Everyone has their own decisions to make. I think we have to respect the individuality of each player, each person to do the things they want to do in that respect in respect.
