Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß has been remarkably open in criticizing Thomas Tuchel’s way of working. The coach, who is leaving at the end of the season, has “a different attitude” when it comes to dealing with young players, said Hoeneß at the FAZ congress on Friday: “He doesn’t think that he can improve Davies, Pavlovic or Musiala. If If it doesn’t work out, you should buy another one. I mean, you should work hard on them and give them confidence.”

This is exactly what Hoeneß expects from a coach: “That he improves young players and gives them a hug.” Basically, he doesn’t blame Tuchel, he often had dinner with me at Tegernsee, I get on very well with him.

The path for FC Bayern in the future will increasingly involve working with young talent. “We can spend 100 million euros on a Harry Kane once, maybe again on a German player, but not four or five times,” said Hoeneß.

That’s why Christoph Freund was chosen as sports director. “He generated a transfer surplus of over 600 million euros for Red Bull Salzburg, that’s the approach for Bayern. Freund knows every good young player in the world.”
