Manchester United “joins Chelsea in Ben Chilwell’s match” and other transfer rumors

Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race for Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aiming to bolster his team’s offensive options this summer with a winger and playmaker high on the wish list, but the Norwegian refused to rule out a move for a new defender.

United struggled as left-back after Luke Shaw was sidelined for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury, although Brandon Williams performed excellently in his debut season.

Now the Daily Mirror claims a bidding war is in store between United and Chelsea for England’s international Chilwell.

Jadon Sancho to United later

The London club are in desperate need of a left-back as Frank Lampard aims to improve Marcos Alonso and Emerson but were hoping to sign Chilwell for far less than Leicester’s £ 80m valuation.

United know all too well how stubborn the Foxes can be after their chase for Harry Maguire last summer and Chelsea are said to be reluctant to pay that much, alerting other top clubs.

It is claimed that United are one of those teams and that they are monitoring the 23-year-old’s future, but MEN Sport does not understand that Chilwell is currently a target.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly targeted AC Milan winger Hakan Calhanoglu as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.

Second Tuttomercatoweb, talks for a new Milan contract for Calhanoglu hit a roadblock and United were bound to pounce. United is reported to have put the winger in their “notebook” of goals.

MEN Sport doesn’t understand the Turk is a target, with Kingsley Coman, Rabbi Matondo and Thiago Almada all set aside as potential back-up options if Sancho is not signed.
