Manchester United fans express their verdict on Player of the Year vote

Manchester United fans believe Anthony Martial should win the club’s Player of the Year vote for the 2019/20 season.

United secured a spot in the top three in the Premier League on the final day of the season by defeating Leicester and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Players are now on vacation after a grueling campaign and are expected to report to Carrington on 2 September ahead of the new Premier League season which kicks off against Crystal Palace on 19 September.

On Friday, United opens voting to crown the club’s player of the year for the 2019/20 season. Luke Shaw is the current holder of the award having been recognized for his projections in the 2018/19 campaign.

MEN Sport asked United fans on Twitter which player they think should win the award and Martial was the clear favorite.

51.6% of the 7,569 votes went to the Frenchman, no surprise given his strong performance this season. The striker finished the season as United’s top scorer in all competitions and received a call-up to France’s senior national team for the first time in two years.

January’s hiring Bruno Fernandes finished second, taking home 37.1% of the votes. The Portuguese transformed United’s fortunes following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon and will be the key to the Reds’ success next season.

Marcus Rashford just overtook Aaron Wan-Bissaka in third place with 5.9% of respondents opting for the forward and just 5.6% for the defender.

In the comments, many supporters praised both Harry Maguire and Fred for their performances throughout the campaign.

One wrote: “Maguire is the obvious one that is missing. Always present throughout the Premier League season and has greatly improved our defense.

Another said, “I’m not saying Fred should win, but he should be at least one of the candidates.”
