Louis van Gaal said he was touched by Wayne Rooney’s claims that he was the best manager the former Manchester United captain played under.
Rooney and Van Gaal worked together for two years between 2014 and 2016, with the Dutchman appointing club captain Rooney ahead of the start of his first season in office.
Speaking in 2019, Rooney said: “Van Gaal is by far the best coach I have worked with – one hundred percent. His tactical skills, his way of preparing and his attention to the smallest detail, I found surprising. I admired it in him. I had never seen things like this before. “
Van Gaal was asked about Rooney’s comments and praised United and England’s record scorer.
