LeBron James began his quest to bring a title back to Los Angeles on Tuesday night as he performed a bigger task: keeping Breonna Taylor at the forefront of the national conversation.

In Game 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers, James wore a modified version of the “Make America Great Again” hat with “Make America Arrest The Cops Who Killed Breonna Taylor” lettering.

Speaking of his decision to wear the cap both before and after a nationwide televised match on TNT, James was direct in saying that Taylor’s family is still awaiting justice.

“A woman who had a bright future and her life was taken from her,” said James after a 100-93 defeat to the Blazers. “There have been no arrests, there there was no justice not only for her, but for her family, and we want to continue to shed light on that situation “.

Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician, was killed in March, when Louisville, Kentucky, police issued a search warrant without knocking on his apartment believing a suspected drug dealer had received packages there. Three plainclothes officers entered as Taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker was in bed. Walker traded gunshots with the police, believing they were intruders. Police shot Taylor eight times. No drugs were found.

All three officers subsequently underwent administrative reassignment with only one officer, Brett Hankison, who lost his job. No charges were filed.

James, along with other NBA and WNBA stars, has been increasingly outspoken in seeking justice for Taylor.

WNBA players wore Taylor’s name on the back of their jerseys throughout the season, while a number of their NBA counterparts participated in marches and protests against police brutality and systemic racism that called the police department of Louisville for Taylor’s killing and the lack of consequences faced by the three officers in question.
