Butler, Dragic helps Heat get away from Pacers
If the first game were any indication, the first-round streak between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers would have been a bit doozy.
On Tuesday afternoon, it was the Heat who emerged with the opening lead in the series thanks to a 113-101 win. Miami was pushed by 14 points in the fourth quarter by Goran Dragic and two triples late by Jimmy Butler, expanding what was only a point clear after three quarters in a 12-point win.
Miami was leading by four at halftime and kept Indiana at a distance throughout the third. The Pacers, however, never left and eventually narrowed the margin to just one, 81-80, entering the fourth. In the end, though, it was Dragic whose flurry early fourth quarter created some separation and Butler who put the game on ice.
NBA season resumed in the Orlando bubble. Butler would add another late bucket with just under a minute to play to put the game out of reach. " data-reactid="55">Butler, only a 24% long-range shooter, hit trey back-to-back to extend the Heat’s lead from six to 12 with 2:29 to play. Those two 3 points were Butler’s first two since the NBA season resumed in the Orlando bubble. Butler would add another late bucket with just under a minute to play to put the game out of reach.
Butler scored 10 of Miami’s last 12 points and finished the afternoon with 28 points. Dragic launched in 24, while the big Bam Adebayo scored a double double (17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three blocks) and rookie Tyler Herro added 15 from the bench.
TJ Warren and Malcolm Brogdon led the way with 22 points each for the Pacers, forced to play the second half without star Victor Oladipo. Oladipo was shot in the eye in the second quarter and didn’t come back.

Magic center Nikola Vucevic was a big deal for the Bucks. Vucevic, 29, went 15-24 from the field, losing 35 points over Milwaukee. Vucevic also added 13 rebounds, picking up a double double.
While Giannis Antetokounmpo still has points, the rest of the Bucks have been kept in check. Antetokounmpo, 25, finished with 31 points and 17 rebounds. Khris Middleton – who finished second on the team in points per game during the regular season – fought off the pitch, going 4-12. He finished with 14 points. Brook Lopez also struggled, scoring 5 points on a 2-9 shot.
The Bucks may have lost Game 1, but the series isn’t over. The Magic did the same thing last season, taking the 1-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs. The Raptors won that series and carried that momentum all the way to the championship.
The Bucks – who entered the playoffs as the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference – will be looking to even things up in their second game on Thursday.
