How Instagram fame changed the life of amateur golfer Bella Angel

When British golfer Bella Angel launched her Instagram account two years ago, she never imagined reaching influencer territory.

“I opened my golf account as a way to track my golf progress,” Angel recently told The Post. “I had no intention of it ever expanding into something bigger. Now yes, and I’m just sharing my progress on a larger scale, which is great. I think this is what people really like about my account. “

Joining the ranks of other golfers-turned-influencers Paige Spiranac and Isabelle Shee, Angel has over 228,000 followers and regularly counts by checking out her page, where she posts photos and videos of herself on the golf course.

An amateur golfer, 22-year-old Angel began playing golf when she was “super young”, continuing to do so through school and college at Loughborough University in the UK.

“My whole family plays,” Angel said. “My dad is a golf pro, so he taught me from a young age. I think I took a club probably at the age of 2. I had the plastic minis, and I had a cut wood one, which I still have, which is pretty sweet.

“I also live near a golf course.”

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, which has closed golf courses for some time, Angel has continued to hone his skills at home, keeping fans updated on quarantine events via cooking and training posts.

“I feel like I’ve developed a really great community of followers who support me a lot,” he said.

As her social reach continues to expand, Angel also recognizes the wider community of influencers and golfers who share their views on the sport.

“I think there are some great golf figures out there who are really sharing women’s point of view on golf, and it’s amazing to have more female role models out there for other girls who want to start playing golf,” she said. Angel.

Angel, who currently follows Spiranac, as well as London-based golfers Hannah Leiner and Mollie Lawrence, added: “It’s great to see everyone doing so well.”

With several influencers expanding their brands with podcasts and lifestyle lines, Angel is also leaving her door open to future possibilities.

“I think it’s just the beginning where I am now, so anything is possible,” he said.
